Remain At Home Senior Care’s newest “Caregiver of the Month” is Shawana McDonald. Shawana is originally from Flint, Michigan, but moved to Athens to be closer to her sister while she attended the University of Georgia.
After her sister graduated, Shawana decided to stay in Athens to pursue a medical career. She was inspired to be a professional caregiver while taking care of her grandmother who lost both legs to diabetes. After experiencing the joys of caregiving, Shawana began to take care of other family members as the need arose. In 2009, she became a Medical Assistant to officially begin her medical career.
Shawana began working in a medical office specializing in pain management, but decided she wanted to work more closely with the actual patients. Soon, she found her way to Remain At Home Senior Care.
At Remain At Home Senior Care she enjoys working directly with clients and especially appreciates the family atmosphere of the locally founded company. She feels the passion and drive from RAH Administrator & Director of Client Advocacy Leslie Kimbel makes her a better caregiver. Shawana is continuing to advance her medical career by working to become a Registered Nurse (RN).
While not providing care to Remain At Home clients, she enjoys hanging out with friends and spending time with her niece Jaleia (5) and nephew Jamil (3). Coming from Flint, Michigan, her favorite thing about her new adopted home town? The weather!
